The Brief

Following its London run, Gorillaz: House of Kong transferred to Los Angeles as part of a wider touring programme marking 25 years of the band. The exhibition opened at Rolling Greens DTLA in February 2026, bringing the same core experience to a new venue and audience.

Auditoria were engaged by Lar&Co to adapt the audio system design, show control and content workflow for the LA installation. While the overall structure of the show remained consistent, the change of venue, local suppliers and revised equipment required the system to be reconfigured within a compressed timeframe.

The exhibition guides visitors through a series of themed environments, combining music, visual design and physical set pieces to bring the Gorillaz world into a physical space.

The Challenge

The primary challenge was the turnaround. The installation was delivered in a 12-day window from initial setup through to opening, including integration, programming and full rehearsals.

Although the show had already been developed in London, the LA version required adjustments to layout, equipment and supply chain. This meant reworking elements of the system while maintaining the timing and structure of the original experience.

The experience runs continuously, with groups entering every five minutes. The system, therefore, needed to remain synchronised across all zones, ensuring that in-ear and ambient audio stayed aligned regardless of where guests joined the sequence.

Our Approach

Auditoria adapted the existing show control and audio design to suit the new venue and equipment package, maintaining the same underlying structure while updating system components where required.

QLab remained at the centre of the show control system, running on redundant playback machines and managing the timing of the experience. Q-SYS cores were used for both audio processing and show control integration, with a combination of Core Nano and Core 110F units distributed across the system.

The audio guide system continued to operate as a timecode-driven experience, using RSF OP6 devices with IR-based synchronisation. For the LA installation, Marshall headphones were introduced, replacing the Sony units used in London.

Ambient audio across the exhibition was delivered using Martin Audio loudspeakers, supported by LEA amplification. In the screening room, an L-Acoustics system provided a more focused listening environment.

Content management and system programming were handled to ensure that all elements remained aligned with the show timeline, allowing the experience to run continuously throughout the day.

The Results

The LA installation has been running as part of the exhibition’s international tour, with strong visitor demand and high daily attendance.

The show control and audio systems maintain synchronisation across all zones, allowing a continuous flow of guests through the experience without interruption.

By adapting an existing design to a new venue within a limited timeframe, the project demonstrates a practical approach to touring immersive installations while maintaining consistency in how the show is experienced.
